Research on phytoplankton and zooplankton ecology focuses on the linkages between the plankton and climate, ocean ecosystem productivity, and recruitment into the fisheries. Research involves measurements made at sea as well as coupled, 3-dimensional physical-biological models are used to investigate connections among ocean currents and temperature, plankton production, and the growth and survival of fish larvae.
